So I finally heard back from my doctor regarding last weeks horrible back injury. Way to promptly return my message, doc!
Interestingly enough, at the time of the injury I was hesitant to make an office visit and despite everyone's recommendations, even more hesitant to visit a chiropractor. I was taking Advil to ease the pain, applying Icy Hot, a heating pad, and attempting to move around as much as possible in order to loosen things up. I figured if I slowly worked my way up to full activity I'd have less of a chance of long-term damage than if I reverted to drastic quick-fixes or overly protecting the injury.
Today, I got this email from the doctor saying: "most back pain resolves spontaneously by six weeks. Advil and heating pad are excellent choices, and moderate exercise is recommended (ie) keep moving like you did, its only recommended to be in bed (bed rest) for 1-2 days."
Hmmm.... seems like my 2 years of biology, anatomy, physiology classes at BYU, and my years of working with chronic injuries at Life Skills actually paid off. I just saved myself a couple hundred bucks by not having to take days off work and pay for office visits and addictive pain prescriptions.
Go me!
BTW, the back is feeling much better. Still stiff and occasionally sore, but overall better.
