I'm enlisting your help. I have a general sense of what I'd like the room to feel like and how I'd like it to function, but I have no mental image of how I'm going to go about setting it up.
First thing I need to decide is a color scheme. Which of the following should I go with?
#1 Green and Gold
#2 Gold and Greige (Greyish Beige)
#3 Black and Yellow
#4 Blue and Red
I should probably mention that I'm not going to be repainting the walls, which are a medium taupe color with creamy white trim. I have some furniture for the room already- 2 chairs from my grandmother's estate which I plan on recovering in material to match, but not painting. They are a honey-colored wood. The room has a similar-toned thick wood blind that I'm planning on leaving up, but possibly supplementing with some cafe curtains. I have a small hutch which I purchased for $10 off of craigslist which will be painted to match whatever color scheme I end up with.
I should also mention that this room is by far the darkest, coldest room in the house, so I've gone out of my way to select color schemes that will help warm up the space and make it more inviting. It also has a direct view of some of the prettiest parts of my garden, so I'd like to keep that in mind as well.
So please leave me a comment and tell me what you think!

Thoughts from an artist: You want a room that you feel comfortable in and will inspire you. HOWEVER, you don't not want a room that will influence (which translates to limits) your inspiration. So right off the bat, I would knock out the red/blue combo and the yellow/green...as pretty as they are! I would go with the graige but without the gold, with silver fixtures and maybe black/white/beige accessories/cabinets. All of the combos are pretty though! I would keep it as neutral and clutterfree as possible. The things you are crafting/creating will add the flavor to the room and your creativity won't be hindered.
BUT, that is what I would feel comfortable in...you might be the exact opposite and need the color to get your juices going!
I say red and blue--but not americana--I like the pics you showed of different types of reds and blue--my second choice is black and yellow!
A color scheme I really like right now is gray and yellow. A soft yellow. It's neutral but pretty. Damask looks great in those colors, maybe for the chairs. And white accents.
Oh, and I like the red and blue. A pale blue would be awesome with red. Or robin's egg blue.
I like green and gold. Great combinations!
I like the green and gold!
Warm makes me sleepy. If I were making a restful room, I would do warm. If I were trying to generate and sustain creative juices, I would get something more lively. The final answer, of course, is inside you somewhere. Which of the combinations you have suggested makes you feel most creative?
I like color, but I'm not fond of yellow, so the green and gold grabs me right away. But I think the light blue/red combo is totally cool and unexpected.
Love them all!!! Fan of Black and Yellow...
I like the red and blue since those colors make me want to create. I, personally, have a soft spot for green, so I love the green and gold scheme. I agree with the others when I say, go for what makes you happy.
