Today is my last Monday of the '08-'09 School Year. Next Monday we do not have school, and since there remain only 2 weeks in the school year, this is it folks!
This week my classes will be doing silent reading, except for the culture elective class I teach that is making a video for their final class project. This is one of the best ideas I've ever had. Usually I have my class making videos or doing internet research the last week, but this year I decided I didn't want to actually have to teach ANYTHING at the end of the year, so they are just reading frantically to finish up a book they started last week. The end. No projects, no tests, nothing but nice, simple reading and a quiz on Wednesday.
Next week we only have 4 days- 2 of them are early out and one of them is the school field trip to Lagoon, Utah's sad little amusement park located North of Salt Lake. About half the kids go, and of the other half who will end up staying behind only about 10% actually make it to school. The rest just stay home and have a poor-kids party. All-in-all, next week I only have one actual day of teaching anything at all... a.k.a. video and a worksheet b/c grades were already turned in the week before. BTW, why do grades get turned in the week BEFORE school gets out? How does this help anyone? I can see with graduating Seniors the need to have GPA's etc. before the end of the year, but 7th and 8th graders? What difference does it make?
Anyway, I can't wait for school to get out because this summer is going to be the best.
