Well, the harvest has begun. The herb plants on the deck are dooing poorly, but the ones under the deck are enormous. Chives, anyone? Perhaps a sprig of mint? Mezclun is thriving. I need to get it out and put some more down, along with some more radishes. The eggplants are starting to show up- they are so purple and cute! Tomatillos are tiny, but bountiful. The only real disappointments are the peppers, which have good size, lots of flowers, but no actual peppers. I'm hoping they're just late bloomers. Even the cucumbers are looking optimistic this year, but the star, of course as always, is the cluster of tomato plants at the bottom of the stairs. If anything, they're doing as well as, if not better than, last year. This shot is of the tomatoes I picked this week.

Did you catch that? These are just the ones that have come off of the vine since Monday. Wowzers. I've got Better Boy, Early Girl, Roma, and pear (mini) tomatoes. The cherry tomatoes died in an unseasonable frost back in April, but the rest pulled through and are better than ever.
Anyway, I'm having a good time playing around with the veggies, and I'm already scheming for next year. I think I'm going to rent a plot at the community garden for my veggies so I can have enough room to plant some potatoes and big melons. That way I can use the big pots on the deck for the herbs.
