For those of you who don't know, the 4th is pretty much my favorite holiday. I LOVE history, especially American history, and the Revolutionary War is one of my favorite time periods to study. I truly believe that our Founding Fathers were guided by Heavenly Father in the establishment of this nation. I also love summer, bbq, parades, and explosions. For all these reasons and more, the 4th is my favorite day of the year.
The only problem is that I am the only American in my family (at least the family that I live with) and as awesome as my in-laws are, I have the sneaking feeling that they just don't "get it." We've never really done anything grand or interesting for the 4th because I just don't have the energy to put something together all by myself. This year was no exception. We did end up going to Freedom Festival for a while and we camped out to watch Stadium of Fire (from the outside), but that was pretty much it.
The coolest thing that happened this year, however, is that Luis spent a large part of the afternoon filling out the paperwork to apply for U.S. Citizenship. So it looks like next year I won't be the only U.S. Citizen in my family. Hooray!

No taxation without representation!
P.S. I totally just blogged about how the 4th is my fave holiday and I hadn't even seen your post yet. Go us!
word verification: shedge, now is that slang for schedule or is it some sort of new hybrid plant (shrub + hedge)?
Very cool about Luis' application!!!
Note: I live with a U.S. citizen and I still didn't do anything for the 4th except feel slightly depressed! I sure miss the times when I would take my kids to see fireworks in Clovis or Auburn or anywhere!! Good times :)
