The Apron of Destiny...

Last night I stayed up late. Too late. WAY too late, to be specific. But it was for a worthwhile cause.
I was browsing through my favorite website in the world, the fabulous and wonderful etsy.com and came across a listing for a halter-top apron. I think that it looks cute, flirty, and flattering, not at all like the old BYU Catering apron I've been using for the past 9 years. Rather, that apron is boring, stained, and makes me look like I'm wearing a potato sack. When I saw this halter-top apron I wanted it, bad. I needed it. I HAD to have it. Then I saw the price. $40. I do not spend $40 on aprons. I do not even spend $40 on my Sunday finest. I actually purchase most of my clothes at Savers, which is a cleaner, nicer version of D.I. (which for you non-Utahns out there is the LDS church's version of GoodWill... it's thrift heaven). So, I did what I always do when I have to have something that I don't want to pay for- I did a google search and figured out how to make it myself. I found a lady who makes them and will sell you the pattern, but it costs like $8. Pshaw. Like I'm going to pay $8 for a pattern and wait for an entire week for something that I really want RIGHT NOW. Not likely.
This woman made the crucial mistake of posting a photo of the pattern that she sells. The pattern had no measurements on it and no instructions, it was just blank brown butcher paper, but it was enough. I was able to look at the pattern, figure out how the pieces go together, and fashion a new one made to fit my own measurements.
I guess that watching my former business partner make patterns all day long for 6 months last year actually paid off, because the apron went together in a snap (it only took me about 4 hours to make the pattern, cut the apron out, and sew it together), and it fits like a dream.
Now I am the proud owner of an amazingly cute halter-top apron like this one. Mine looks pretty much exactly the same as this one, except that it is made out of black fabric with black/red/pink/lime green strawberry patterned trim. It also has a cute little ruffle on the bottom.

If you would be interested in a pattern and a tutorial, let me know. If I get a good enough response I might post a how-to on this amazingly cute craft.

You are always in my brain stealing my ideas! I've been plotting to start making adorable aprons for months now! I have several bookmarked pages of them. We should start a business. Oh wait, then I would hate sewing...Dang!
