My Two Weirdos...

So here's something about Luis you probably didn't know- he's an environmentalist and kind of a tree-hugger. In fact, if he wasn't LDS, he'd probably be living in some sort of weird commune somewhere. He's constantly going around the house and shutting off lights behind me, despite the fact we've converted the entire house to 10 watt lightbulbs. He recycles everything, and only buys new clothes when his old ones have irreparable holes because he doesn't want to waste. He is thinking of trading in his Sonata for a CNG vehicle. He refuses to shop at Walmart unless absolutely necessary... for moral reasons. He saw a documentary on the company and cancelled our Sam's Club membership the next week. His life dream is to get like 5 acres somewhere and grow a lot of corn or something bizarre like that. Last night I caught him listening to a song by "the mamas and the papas" and when I confronted him he asked "so does this make me a real hippie?" I asked him where does he come from? He said "D.F." What a weirdo. :)

Andrei has been bugging me about his Halloween costume for a few weeks now. And by a few weeks I mean like 11 months. He has traveled the entire gambit of superheroes, movie characters, and cartoon characters and has asked to be everything from "black suit spiderman" to "Willy Wonka." He has ruled most superheroes out, however, because we put our foot down about 2 months ago and insisted his mother stop letting him watch PG-13 movies because he's only 6. We explained to him what violence is and why we're not letting him watch it, so now if you bring up Spiderman he'll say that it's too violent for him. What a weird kid. :)

Last week we went to JoAnn's and looked through the pattern books and he saw a Robin Hood costume, which he decided was Peter Pan, and all week he's been asking if he could please have a Peter Pan costume. Today we went back and purchased the pattern and spent most of the afternoon making the costume. At first he was confused because he's never seen anyone actually sew clothes before (odd seeing as he spends most weekends at my dress shop). When we walked into JoAnns he got angry and told me "They don't sell clothes here! We're at the wrong store!"

He couldn't understand how I was going to change a big rectangle of cloth into a costume, but once he figured it out he wouldn't leave me alone. He perched himself on a barstool next to my work table and insisted on handling all of the pins and the scissors, and hugging/kissing me every couple of minutes. Needless to say it took twice as long to build as it normally would have, but it came out SUPER cute, and all of the hugs and kisses sure made me feel great. I had to improvise on the hat because it didn't come with a hat pattern. I'm really pleased, though, with how it turned out.

Now we're trying to convince his best friend Esteban to be Captain Hook. We're making costumes for the dogs, too. Leyla is going to be Tinkerbell and Bella is going to be the crocodile.
I'll post pictures once we get everyone dressed up.

Tomorrow is Ana's baby's blessing. Her MIL gave her the CUTEST tatted lace blessing dress. After that, Mama is planning on going back to Mexico, which means I get my house back a little. I don't know if my FIL will ever come up here to see Kenley. He's really weird about that. He takes fewer vacations that Luis and I do.

Speaking of which, we're going to Cali next week to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. It's a little late, but better late than never, I guess. We're taking Andrei and going to Disneyland in celebration of him pulling an impressive 180 in school. His teachers say he's still antsy and talkative, but no more so than all of the other 1st graders... without Ritalin. Hmmm... After 3 weeks of tracking sheets and positive reinforcement he's doing better. Imagine that. Hate to say I told you so, but...

We promised him if he got better we'd surprise him, so he doesn't know. We told him it had something to do with Mickey Mouse and roller coasters, but he is going to DIE of happiness when he figures it out. Maybe he can wear his costume to Disneyland. And maybe we can drive a CNG vehicle to California. :) I'm so weird.
